Eating out in Madrid can be expensive even though there are plenty of tapas bars around. When you are looking for somewhere reasonable to eat, it could be worth checking out the Museo de Jamon.

With a holiday home in Austria you can be assured of unforgettable mountains, the brightest lakes and unspoilt alpine meadows in the spring, summer or autumn. The ideal starting point for wonderful hikes, amongst other things.

Villas in Austria
As I said, Austria has many faces. The ski areas have almost without exception in summer a completely unique charm and are therefore also definitely worth a visit in the snow-free months.
For those who prefer a summer holiday in a house in Austria, there are plenty of opportunities. In addition to the areas mentioned above, there are a few other destinations that deserve extra attention.
For your summer holiday for example think of Salzkammergut, which is also called the ‘green heart of Austria’. This beautiful region east of the beautiful city of Salzburg is the most famous lake district in the country.
Famous lakes in this region are the Attersee, the Mondsee, the Fuschlsee and the Wolfgangsee, but there are many more. Each lake with its surroundings is home to a wealth of amazing sights just waiting for you to explore.
A stay in Salzkammergut would combine perfectly with a visit to the beautiful Salzburg. With a holiday home in Austria, it is all within your reach!
Child-friendly holiday homes
Austria is definitely a country that welcomes children. Many of the smaller ski areas in the country are well-organized and fully equipped for family holidays. Practice meadows, easy slopes and especially lots of extra children’s facilities make Austria ideal for winter sports fun with the whole family.
Young and old, beginners and advanced, skiing fun is guaranteed! For child-friendly holiday homes in Austria you do not have to look far as there are plenty.
When it comes to summer holidays, children are always in their element near water. Although Austria is land locked and therefore has no coastline, there is plenty of water in the form of the countless lakes in Carinthia and Salzkammergut, amongst others.
With a holiday home in one of these regions, a holiday with children is perfect. Can the dog come too? You can also contact Interhome for a holiday home with the dog in Austria!

In addition to all the aforementioned holiday destinations, Austria is also renowned for its capital, the stylish Vienna. A beautiful city with many historical attractions, a vibrant cultural nightlife and plenty of culinary temptations.
You should really plan a visit to Belvedère Palace; a palace built in the baroque style, which is home to an unparalleled art collection (classical and modern).
In the city of world-famous composers such as Mozart and Beethoven, a visit to the State Opera is almost ‘obligatory’.
And of course your visit to Vienna is not complete without enjoying the authentic Sachertorte in a Viennese coffee house!

Switzerland, a special country
Switzerland consists of 26 cantons, all of which are autonomous. So when you visit us, you will not only have to deal with Swiss laws, but also with the agreements that apply within the canton in question.
Switzerland is known for its neutrality and is therefore not a member of the European Union. You pay with Swiss francs and it is precisely because of this neutrality that Switzerland has a very international feel. A city like Geneva is home to many international organizations.
As Switzerland is centrally located within Europe and in history there has been a lot of influence from neighbouring countries, Switzerland has no less than 4 official languages. German, French, Italian and Reto-Romanesque – you may come across one or all of these during your journey through Switzerland.
Alps, plains and Jura
Besides a small area in Northwest Switzerland, Switzerland has 3 characteristic landscape types. Most of Switzerland, about half of it, is covered by the Alps with spectacular peaks but equally beautiful valley areas such as Engadine and Surselva in the canton of Graubunden.
The Alps roughly cover the south-eastern half of Switzerland and change into the Swiss plateau on the north side. Specifically the Bernese Oberland is one of the most important tourist areas of Switzerland with famous peaks such as the Jungfrau, the Mönch and the Eiger.
Swiss plateau
The Swiss plateau, also called Mittelland, is formed by flat and hilly areas at 400 to 600 metres above sea level. That makes the terrain much more suitable for cities.
The area is about 30% of the total, but two thirds of all Swiss live in cities like Bern, Zurich and Freiburg, and most companies are located there. The plateau is located in central Switzerland and runs from Lake Geneva to Lake Constance.
The Swiss Jura
On the border of France and Switzerland you will find the Swiss Jura. That is a less well-known mountain area, it also only accounts for about 10% of the Swiss surface, but is still a very nice place for a holiday home in Switzerland.
The Jura Mountains are characterized by its capricious shapes and is very woody. On many slopes grow trees, from deciduous trees to about 800 metres and conifers on the higher slopes.
Mountain sports and winter sports in Switzerland
If 50% of the country is covered by Alpine peaks and valleys, sports such as mountaineering, ice climbing and winter sports must be in the genes of the Swiss.
Many Alpine peaks are breathtakingly beautiful and certainly the symbol of Switzerland, the 4478 metre high Matterhorn, is a magnet for climbers and explorers. You can use the Glacier Express from St Moritz to Zermatt drive, where the mountain majestically towers above you.
Many Alpine slopes are suitable for skiers and the concept of winter sports was invented in St Moritz, where a hotel owner wondered how he could lure his English tourists to the mountain area in winter.
Whilst skiing was initially the main focus, winter sports are nowadays a versatile form of holiday with many different activities. Beginners skiers, black slope fans, cross-country skiers, snowboarders and off-piste skiers, everyone can go to Switzerland and there is a ski area to suit everyone.
Besides these common sports, there are also more and more alternative winter sports. Tobogganers, glacier skiers, ski-joering fans and curling fans can also enjoy modern winter sports centres such as the Vaudoises Alps. A winter sports chalet in Switzerland is therefore the starting point of a wonderful holiday.

The Swiss chocolate tradition is something special. Chocolate has been made in Switzerland for a long time, but in the 19th century new production methods were devised to bring the quality to an even higher level.
The Swiss also invented milk chocolate. Swiss people know that their chocolate is very good and they are the biggest chocolate eaters themselves.
Swiss wine
The great variety in landscape, nature and climate in the different regions is reflected in the wine. Grapes have been grown on Swiss soil for more than 2000 years and wine is produced.
Most important wine regions in the country are Wallis, Vaud (Lavaux), Geneva and Ticino. If your holiday home in Switzerland is in one of those areas, try to taste some of the local products.
Other activities in Switzerland
Of course, the mountains are combined with skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports. But the mountains offer so much more than a holiday home in Switzerland.

Many people do not realise how rich in water Switzerland is and how many beautiful lakes there are for water sports enthusiasts. Of course these are the large and famous lakes such as Lake Geneva, Lake Neuchâtel and Lake Constance, but also Lake Lugano and Lake Maggiore are particularly popular with tourists.
The lakes give a completely different picture of Switzerland, fashionable and stylish but also Mediterranean and offer all possibilities for sailing, water skiing, canoeing, rowing or diving. And of course you will find beautiful lakes throughout the country for just swimming.

Art, culture and cities in Switzerland
Switzerland is small, but is located in the heart of Europe and shows a mix of different cultures and influences from neighbouring countries, especially Germany, France and Italy. This is reflected in the architecture with its many medieval but also Romanesque buildings. Many Swiss cities are wonderful to explore.
So you will certainly not be bored in Zurich if you visit the picturesque old Altstadt with the Gothic Basilica Fraumünster, or the Grossmünster with its two towers. Bern is worth a visit with its medieval city centre, the beautiful medieval colonnades in the shopping area and the Nyddegg Bridge.
Also Geneva and Lausanne with their Romanesque architecture and cathedrals should be visited if possible. Just like all those other beautiful cities and buildings, such as the beautiful Castles of Bellinzona.
And if you don’t like culture or architecture, the shopping opportunities are above average, especially if you want to buy chocolate or watches. Because Switzerland is the perfect place for shopping.
Museums, exhibitions and theatre in Switzerland

To the north of Norway
If you travel to Northern Norway outside the summer months, you must take the opportunity to see the Northern Lights. Everyone wants to see this enchantingly beautiful natural phenomenon once, whose origin lies in the movement of the solar wind.
It is caused by eruptions on the sun that shoot large quantities of particles at high speed towards the earth. The magnetic field of our planet deflects these particles and they then enter the atmosphere with an extra acceleration at the North Pole.
There they collide with other molecules and provide the beautiful play of light that we can see. Everyone should experience this at least once in their life.
Why not from your holiday home in Norway? And if you’re really in the north of Norway, you’re also heading for the North Cape. This is the northernmost point of Europe, where you are only 2000 kilometres from the North Pole.
The Fjords of Norway
One of the trademarks of this great country is the beautiful fjords. These amazing and impressive coves, with deep water and steeply rising rocks, are worth a visit alone.
The most beautiful fjord is probably the 15 kilometre long Geirangerfjord. You will find it about 100 kilometres from Alesund. The Fjords are not only a beautiful area for walking, sailing or just for admiring, but also for beautiful sights to visit.
One of the nicest places is the Preikestolen. That is a cliff more than 600 metres high. After a brisk walk in which you go up another 300 m, you will enjoy a very special view.
There are 44 national parks spread over 15 different regions. In addition, there are 18 different tourist routes that run through the most beautiful areas of Norway. In every region you can walk, cycle, climb mountains, and canoe.
Oslo, Bergen and Stavanger
Norway is a vast country with not many cities. But the cities that are there are definitely worth a visit. For many people, a trip to Norway begins or ends in Oslo. An amazingly beautiful city that you should definitely visit.
The city is surrounded by many small islands with all kinds of opportunities for relaxation and recreation. But also the city itself has a lot to offer. A beautiful open-air museum for example, or the royal palace, the cathedral and the beautiful town hall.
On the east coast we find Mountains, which is very beautiful because of the wooden construction that is still abundant to see.
And you can also enjoy the great view from Bergen from the 320 metre high Mt. Fløyen. Stavanger is also a lovely city. The city is modern and plays an important role in the oil industry but also has a nice old town.
Midnight sun
The midnight sun, or also called polar day, is a phenomenon in which the sun does not set at night and therefore it is light all day and night. This phenomenon can only be seen in the countries north of the Arctic Circle or south of the Antarctic Circle.
Because your biorhythm is confused, falling asleep while the sun is still shining is quite a challenge for many people. The midnight light can be seen from April to August. If you go to Norway, this phenomenon is one you should not miss!
Climate
Norway has a mild climate. This means that it is quite cold in winter, but could also have been much colder. Other countries at the same latitude have on average much lower winter temperatures, such as northern Russia, Greenland and Alaska.
Norway has a few different climates. The south, southwest and coastal areas have a temperate maritime climate. They have relatively mild winters and summers but with a lot of rainfall all year round.
The interior in the south and southwest has a temperate continental climate. This means that winters are colder than those in coastal areas. Furthermore, a large part of the interior has a cool continental climate.

Holiday homes and apartments in the Czech Republic can also be rented through Interhome. Above you will find more than 100 different types of accommodation, for example detached houses in Prague.
The Czech Republic is located in the middle of Europe. Neighbouring countries are Germany, Poland, Slovakia and Austria. Previously the western part of the Czech Republic belonged to Czechoslovakia, but since 1993 the Czech Republic has been an independent country.
Six years later the Czech Republic joined NATO and in 2004 the European Union. Five years later, a representative from the Czech Republic even became the first president of the EU.
The climate
Areas in the Bohemian valleys (a region that covers about two thirds of the Czech Republic, the rest is covered by Moravia and Silesia) have a low precipitation rate. Other areas in this region, however, have a more unstable climate.
The wind is not as strong and there is a lot snowfall, especially in the mountain areas. In the lower areas snow and rain can alternate. Around January the temperature varies from about -6 °C in the mountain areas to slightly below freezing in the lower cities, such as the capital Prague.
In summer, temperatures can exceed 30 °C in the Czech Republic. In the mountains, however, the average temperature is only around 11°C. From October the average temperature generally drops again, towards below 10°C.
Currency
As mentioned earlier, the Czech Republic has joined the EU. However, the country has not yet switched to the Euro. The Czech Republic still has its own currency, called the Koruna (CZK) or the Czech Crown.
All banks in the Czech Republic are part of major foreign banks, so you do not have to worry about accessing this facility whilst awayt. Currently, € 1,- is about 25,35 Kroner.
The exchange rate has generally always been fairly stable, but since April 2017 the euro has fallen considerably against the Crown. To easily convert prices in the Czech Republic to Euro and estimate how expensive something is, do the following.
Multiply the amount in CZK by 4 and divide by 100. You see a nice souvenir for 150 CKZ and you want to know how much this is actually in Euro. You do 150 x 4 = 600, dividing by 100 = 6 Euro.
